The SCADA Operational Technology (OT) division is dedicated to delivering technical expertise for the management of essential OT infrastructure systems, ensuring dependable power generation across various communities. The role of the SCADA OT Specialist at NTPC encompasses advanced experience and leadership in the administration, planning, and development of multiple enterprise and plant-level SCADA OT systems. This position enhances and supports numerous supervisory systems, focusing on maintaining optimal availability, fostering continuous operational enhancements, and adhering to best practices in security compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee various OT SCADA systems at the enterprise level that connect with plant control systems.
  • Enhance and maintain operational systems while ensuring high standards of availability, integrity, functionality, and security of the OT systems.
  • Conduct OT SCADA administration tasks, including the development, configuration, commissioning, and documentation of various enterprise OT SCADA systems in collaboration with field supervisory equipment and personnel.
  • Lead the development, configuration, and commissioning aspects of the hosting systems for all functions of various enterprise OT SCADA systems.
  • Manage data historians, devise solutions for operational data exchange, and integrate third-party systems related to Power Generation and Energy Management.
  • Collaborate with internal IT Infrastructure partners for the administration and implementation of core infrastructure services utilized with OT systems.
  • Participate in a team environment to effectively mitigate IT/OT security risks across the Corporation's Hydro and Thermal generation systems.
  • Administer OT hosting environments, server-workstation security, user accounts, and the development of business applications.
  • Exhibit strong familiarity with specific industrial protocols (DNP, IEC, Modbus, Allen Bradley) and analyze network traffic for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Support operations to enhance OT systems in terms of reliability, safety, and cost-effective monitoring of core assets.
  • Provide advanced support for man-machine interfaces (HMI) at generation facilities, substation automation equipment, and data concentrators.
  • Collaborate with the SAO Team and other sections to create preliminary designs, proposals, and budgetary estimates for new and existing SCADA/telecontrol projects.
  • Conduct evaluation and acceptance tests on new SCADA/host systems and associated equipment.
  • Implement improvements to support the 24-hour Supervisory Central Control Room and backup centers.
  • Assist in selecting vendor support for Automation/SCADA systems and manage vendor support agreements.
  • Oversee contractors performing Automation/SCADA and telecontrol contract work.
  • Facilitate training for co-workers and receive training, while also undertaking additional responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences, or related fields with 10 years of utility experience in the Operational Technology domain.
  • Senior SCADA Specialist with direct experience in enterprise OT level supervisory systems, preferably within an electric utility context.
  • Proven experience in executing projects focused on the design, implementation, and auditing of SCADA security standards in OT/IT environments.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of information systems experience with the implementation and administration of Operational Technology (OT) supervisory systems.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in operating platforms across Linux/VMWare/UNIX and Microsoft enterprise environments.
  • Senior level experience with SCADA historians and various database systems.
  • Experience in Project Management, developing solutions, enhancing customer products, and automation.
  • Familiarity with RTU, PLC, end devices, and industrial SCADA and automation communications protocols.
  • Experience in developing Backup and Disaster Recovery procedures and conducting cybersecurity audits.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent is required.
  • Must pass a successful criminal records check.

The salary for this position ranges from $55.83/hr to $67.85/hr. A comprehensive benefits package is offered, including health and dental benefits, long-term disability, life insurance, paid sick days, and a defined benefits pension plan. Relocation assistance will be provided.
