Roustabout Job Description

The Roustabout is a vital member of the rig crew, responsible for assisting with various tasks on the drilling decks. This role requires a strong understanding of drilling operations, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with crane operations, including rigging up and down, and ensuring safe lifting practices.
  • Perform manual handling of tubular and tools, including strapping and tallying pipes.
  • Contribute to drilling operations, including tripping and back reaming.
  • Assist with well control and pressure control systems.
  • Perform general maintenance of drilling equipment, including circulating, rotating, hoisting, and well control systems.
  • Inspect and maintain rig floor safety belts, snub lines, jerk lines, shackles, and cable clamps.
  • Assist with mud pump repairs and general pump maintenance.
  • Perform housekeeping and cleanliness around the rig floor working area.
  • Comply with platform emergency response plan and station bills during emergencies and/or drills.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • High School diploma required.
  • Ability to identify and understand functionality of various rig equipment.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in basic rigger's role to ensure safe lifting operations are performed.
  • Knowledgeable of mechanical systems and skilled at working with hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions, including cold or heat.
  • Ability to multitask, work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, reason logically, and make sound decisions.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Ability to work around moving machinery.
  • Lift, carry, and move objects of up to 50 pounds.
  • Operate machinery and/or power tools.
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground (gravel, rocks, mounds, ice).
  • Wear personal protective equipment, including hard hat, steel-toed safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, safety glasses, goggles, and full body harness.
