Roustabout Job Description

The Roustabout is a vital member of the rig crew, responsible for assisting with various tasks on the drilling decks. This role requires a strong understanding of drilling operations, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with crane operations, including rigging up and down, and ensuring safe lifting practices.
  • Participate in drilling and well operations, including pipe tripping, back reaming, and running casing and completions.
  • Perform routine maintenance on drilling equipment, including circulating, rotating, hoisting, and well control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols, including dropped objects prevention, line of fire, zone of exclusion, and safe zone operations.
  • Collaborate with the rig crew to maintain a safe and efficient working environment.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma required; previous experience in the oil industry preferred.
  • Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in adverse weather conditions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to follow directions and work independently.
  • Basic mathematical skills and ability to comprehend and follow verbal and written directions.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and reason logically.
  • Ability to comprehend, remember, and follow verbal and written directions.
Work Environment:

The Roustabout will work on a drilling rig, exposed to various weather conditions and physical demands. The ability to work in a team environment and maintain a safe and efficient working environment is essential.
