About the Role

As a Medical Microbiologist at the BC Centre for Disease Control Public Health Laboratory (BCCDC PHL), you will play a vital role in safeguarding public health by contributing to the diagnosis, monitoring, and surveillance of infectious diseases.

Reporting to the BCCDC PHL Medical Director, your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of activities aimed at enhancing client care, infection control, outbreak response, education, and applied research within the field of medical microbiology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert guidance and leadership to technical staff, ensuring smooth laboratory operations.
  • Offer clinical consultation services and assist in interpreting complex laboratory test results, contributing to accurate diagnoses and patient care.
  • Actively participate in quality assurance initiatives to maintain the highest standards of accuracy and reliability in laboratory testing.
  • Develop and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent and efficient laboratory practices.
  • Analyze laboratory testing patterns to identify trends and areas for improvement, contributing to evidence-based decision-making.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in clinical practice and medical microbiology through continuous professional development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability within a dynamic healthcare environment.
Qualifications:
  • Possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Have completed a minimum of two years of postgraduate training in relevant specialties, such as infectious diseases or microbiology.
  • Demonstrate significant experience in medical microbiology, infectious diseases, or infection prevention and control.
  • Exhibit excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Be eligible for registration with the appropriate medical board.
