Your Opportunity:
As a key leader within Alberta Health Services, the Acute Care Manager will report directly to the Director of Rural Acute Care in the Southeast Central Zone. This role encompasses providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for both the Acute Care Inpatient Unit and the Emergency Department. The Drumheller Health Centre offers a comprehensive range of healthcare services, including a 24/7 Emergency Department, 33 acute care beds, 4 restorative care beds, and 8 long-term care beds, addressing a variety of medical needs.
Role Overview:
The Acute Care Manager is tasked with delivering staff and program leadership in clinical operations for the Acute Care and Emergency Department. This position will also play a pivotal role in supporting the implementation of local, zonal, and provincial healthcare initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
- Effectively managing human resources, including scheduling, rotations, and skill mix.
- Creating a safe, healthy, and inclusive work environment where staff feel engaged and valued.
- Facilitating just-in-time learning, coaching, mentoring, and ongoing professional development for team members.
- Overseeing the allocation of fiscal and capital resources, while ensuring compliance with established policies and practices.
- Promoting a culture of continuous quality improvement to maintain high standards of patient and family-centered care.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a post-secondary degree in a health profession, health administration, leadership, or a comparable field. Registration with an Alberta Regulated Health Profession is essential, along with a demonstrated commitment to professional development through continuing education.
Additional Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to manage change and develop innovative solutions for complex issues. Strong organizational skills, a client-focused approach, and a commitment to quality service are crucial. Experience collaborating with healthcare professionals and excellent interpersonal communication skills are necessary. Candidates should be comfortable with decision-making responsibilities and possess the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Knowledge of collective agreements and experience working with a unionized workforce is advantageous.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in leading healthcare teams and providing innovative solutions to complex system challenges is preferred. Proven coaching skills to support team members in reaching their full potential, along with experience in a leadership role within a large and diverse organization, are highly valued. A strong understanding of Rural Acute Care and Emergency services will be considered an asset.
