Overview

Avison Young is on the lookout for a seasoned legal professional to enhance its legal team. The ideal candidate will report directly to the Deputy General Counsel, focusing on North American Litigation & Employment. This role will involve collaboration with various attorneys and business professionals on a project-by-project basis. Currently, Avison Young's legal department comprises a team of five attorneys, along with additional support staff, who cater to the company's diverse business functions across its global operations.

The successful candidate will primarily be situated in Avison Young's Toronto office, although there may be flexibility for placement in other Canadian offices depending on the candidate's profile.

Key Responsibilities

The role requires a commercial and transactional attorney with extensive experience in representing clients in both domestic and international transactions. The primary focus will be to advise Avison Young's senior executives and local office management while overseeing external legal counsel in relation to M&A growth opportunities, commercial transactions, and business operations. Additionally, the attorney will be expected to provide various legal services as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer, tailored to the candidate's expertise.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of relevant legal practice experience
  • Proficient in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial contracts and legal documents
  • Experience in managing and resolving commercial disputes and litigation
  • In-house legal experience or relevant industry background, preferably in a professional services context
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple complex matters in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while adhering to deadlines
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong legal and business acumen
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong negotiation and drafting capabilities
  • Willingness to learn and tackle new challenges
