Job Title: In-House Legal Counsel

Smith + Andersen is seeking a highly skilled and experienced In-House Legal Counsel to join its shared services team in Toronto. As a key member of the team, you will provide legal support to the company's offices across Canada, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Negotiate and review legal agreements and documents to protect the company's interests and mitigate risk.
  • Provide legal advice and support to project teams and leadership on commercial and construction law matters.
  • Draft, edit, and manage contract templates to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Manage project-related claims and disputes, including insurance claims and litigation.
  • Collaborate with leadership, shared services, and external stakeholders to achieve business objectives.
  • Stay up-to-date with statutory and regulatory changes, providing guidance and training to the team.
Requirements:
  • 5-7 years of experience in commercial and construction law, preferably in private practice or in-house.
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise sound legal judgment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients and management.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
