About the Role

Smith + Andersen is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join its shared services team in Toronto. As a key member of the team, you will provide legal support to the company's offices across Canada, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Negotiate and review legal agreements and documents to protect the firm's interests and mitigate risk.
  • Provide legal advice and support to project teams and leadership on matters related to commercial and construction law.
  • Manage project-related claims and disputes, including insurance claims and litigation.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with leadership, shared services, and external stakeholders to achieve business objectives.
Requirements
  • 5-7 years of experience in commercial and construction law, preferably in private practice or in-house.
  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to exercise sound legal judgment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
