Position Overview:
The successful candidate will report to the Assistant Vice President and Regional Director, playing a pivotal role in expanding the Montreal Mortgage team's portfolio of high-quality commercial mortgage loans in Quebec. This involves identifying and sourcing new market opportunities, as well as structuring, negotiating, and underwriting new loan proposals in accordance with Manulife's investment guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in sourcing, evaluating, and underwriting commercial mortgage loan opportunities (minimum $10 million) for recommendations to senior management.
- Facilitate the closing of loan transactions by collaborating with our centralized closing team, legal advisors, and clients/brokers.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, real estate professionals, and mortgage brokerage firms to identify new investment opportunities.
- Stay informed about real estate and lending market trends and conditions.
- Analyze and recommend modifications to existing loans as necessary.
- Support Loan Administration and Collateral Review in managing the mortgage portfolio, including monitoring loan performance, addressing borrower requests, and resolving legal issues related to mortgage security.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in commercial mortgage lending.
- Post-secondary education in a real estate-related field such as Business, Finance, or Accounting.
- Strong analytical skills and mathematical proficiency in mortgage financing.
- In-depth knowledge of commercial real estate and market trends.
- Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in both French and English, with superior verbal and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively and manage relationships effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Success Factors:
Ideal candidates will possess knowledge of commercial mortgage documentation, familiarity with legal considerations, and the ability to analyze cash flows. A comprehensive understanding of commercial real estate market conditions and appraisal techniques is essential. Skills in marketing, deal negotiation, and financial analysis will also be beneficial.
