Position Overview: Reporting to the Corporate Affairs & Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Manager for the Eastern Region, the Senior HSE Specialist serves as a vital HSE business partner for Graymont's operational facilities, terminals, and regional offices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Act as the primary manager for environmental concerns while also supporting health and safety initiatives, ensuring the sustainability of Graymont's internal HSE standards.
  • Lead or assist in fulfilling environmental permit obligations, including the timely completion of mandatory documentation.
  • Deliver training and support for compliance with internal standards as necessary.
  • Facilitate HSE incident investigations utilizing root cause analysis techniques to avert future occurrences.
  • Engage in internal health, safety, and environmental audits within the company.
  • Support and influence local Health, Safety, and Environmental committees to promote HSE development.
  • Oversee and coordinate compliance support activities for the Eastern Canada region, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to provincial and federal regulatory bodies.
  • Foster alignment within the plants to enhance the development of site-level HSE personnel and engage staff and frontline employees in the OneGraymont culture.
  • Act as a facilitator to align corporate objectives with workforce engagement, ensuring regulatory compliance and promoting continuous improvement of Graymont's Safety and Environmental standards while advancing the plant's behavioral safety culture.
  • Collaborate effectively with operations and other support functions across North America on continuous improvement initiatives to establish and maintain a world-class HSE framework.
  • Advance initiatives aligned with Graymont's decarbonization efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science or Engineering discipline is required, with a preference for a focus on Health, Safety, or Environmental studies.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in managing environmental, health, and safety requirements within an industrial setting.
  • Experience in engaging with regulatory agencies, including CNESST and WCB, is preferred.
  • Project management experience and relevant qualifications are preferred.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to influence decision-making processes.
  • Capability to work independently and resolve issues effectively.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multitask, and organize effectively.
  • Successful in both collaborative and independent work environments.
  • Strong analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and contribute as a team member.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Relational Databases).
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English is essential.
