Position Overview: Reporting to the Corporate Affairs & Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager for the Eastern Region, the Senior HSE Specialist will serve as a crucial HSE business partner to Graymont's operational facilities, terminals, and regional offices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist plant managers and leaders in coordinating, implementing, and sustaining health, safety, and environmental programs primarily for Eastern Canada (ECAN).
  • Support company-wide HSE initiatives by achieving corporate objectives, enhancing the safety culture within ECAN plants, and promoting the OneGraymont strategic approach.
  • Oversee environmental management while also supporting health and safety, ensuring adherence to Graymont's internal HSE standards.
  • Lead or assist with environmental permit compliance, ensuring timely completion of mandatory reports.
  • Provide training and support for compliance with internal standards as necessary.
  • Facilitate HSE incident investigations utilizing root cause analysis methodologies to prevent recurrence.
  • Participate in internal health, safety, and environmental audits.
  • Support and influence local HSE committees to promote growth in health, safety, and environmental practices.
  • Coordinate ECAN compliance support activities, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to regulatory agencies.
  • Foster alignment within plants to enhance the development of site-level HSE personnel and promote the OneGraymont culture.
  • Act as a facilitator to align corporate objectives with workforce engagement, ensuring regulatory compliance and continuous improvement of Graymont's safety and environmental standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with operations and support functions across North America on continuous improvement projects to maintain a world-class HSE function.
  • Advance initiatives aligned with Graymont's decarbonization efforts.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science or Engineering discipline is required, with a preference for a focus on Health, Safety, or Environmental studies.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience managing environmental, health, and safety requirements in an industrial setting.
  • Experience interacting with regulatory agencies, including CNESST and WCB, is preferred.
  • Project management experience and qualifications are preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to influence decision-making processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize, and organize effectively.
  • Successful in both team-oriented and independent work environments.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate as a team member.
  • Proficient in standard computer software applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Relational Databases).
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English is required.
