The Hospital Float Team is a dynamic staffing model that comprises Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), and Personal Support Workers (PSWs) who provide essential resources to nursing units and departments within Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital (OSMH). As a Float Team Nurse, you will be responsible for responding to increasing acuity needs and replacing short-notice/term needs that arise throughout the hospital.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high-quality patient care in a variety of settings, including acute care and critical care units.
- Respond to increasing acuity needs and replace short-notice/term needs that arise throughout the hospital.
- Work collaboratively with nursing teams to ensure seamless patient care.
- Participate in pre-booking opportunities to familiarize yourself with all nursing units and departments.
- Current R.N. General Class Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) is required.
- BScN preferred.
- A minimum of two (2) years recent experience in an acute care and critical care setting is required.
- Current BCLS certification and completed IV training is required.
- Completion of the Coronary Care 1 certificate or equivalent within the last two (2) years or current usage of arrhythmia analysis within the previous two (2) years to ACLS standards is required or willingness to take within 3 months of hire.
- Successful completion of a Patient Assessment Course within the past three (3) years is required (exempt if newly graduated within the past three (3) years) or willing to take within 3 months of hire.
- Experience within the last two years caring for patients with ventilators, BIPAP, Special line care, peritoneal dialysis, and CVP is required.
- Specialty certifications, including ACLS, PALS, ATLS, TNCC, Certified Emergency Care Course, and Certified Canadian Emergency Nursing Certificate, are preferred.
- PACU certification or willingness to complete is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to be adaptable and flexible in order to work efficiently and effectively within a variety of patient care teams.
- Must be able to meet the physical and emotional responsibilities of the job.
- Physically able to lift and move patients with frequent and repetitive pushing, pulling, bending, and stooping.
- Strong critical thinking skills and motivated by changing environments.
- Demonstrated ability to be reliable and maintain excellent attendance and performance records.
