We are seeking a dedicated Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Specialist to join our team at our Clarkson facility. This role reports directly to the HSE Business Partner.

Job SummaryAs an HSE Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. Your responsibilities will encompass on-site safety observations, collaborating with stakeholders, coordinating risk management processes, developing and implementing safe work practices, and fostering a strong safety culture within the site.
You will also be responsible for facilitating internal audits to ensure compliance with legal and corporate requirements.
Principal Responsibilities- Implement various HSE programs, tailoring them to local needs. Develop site-specific procedures, training materials, and work instructions.
- Drive site-specific HSE initiatives and enhance engagement in HSE programs and standard processes.
- Lead gap analysis processes and develop action plans for improvement.
- Support investigations into HSE non-conformances, accidents, environmental releases, and other incidents. Ensure thorough documentation and follow-up on recommended preventive and corrective actions.
- Report all relevant incidents to the appropriate workers' compensation organizations and regulatory authorities, managing the claims process effectively.
- Collaborate in developing and delivering HSE training programs, adapting them to specific local requirements.
- Support and facilitate Health and Safety committee initiatives.
- Work with cross-functional teams to implement, create, or modify site-specific controls, programs, and tools that enhance compliance and performance.
- Provide support for internal and external environmental reporting.
- Maintain summary data and facilitate reporting on critical environmental metrics.
- Review and update the hazardous materials program and site-specific training materials.
- Escalate any relevant situations to the HSE Business Partner as needed.
- A recognized degree, diploma, or designation in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or Human Resources.
- 2+ years of experience with all applicable types of legislation, laws, and standards related to health, safety, environment, and employment standards (WSIB, MOL, MOE, etc.).
- 5+ years of experience in Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the plastic industry.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in management systems.
- A strong understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including training facilitation skills.
- Strong computer skills and technical proficiency.
- Results-driven approach to work.
