Job Title: Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Champion

This role is responsible for championing our HSE program, ensuring regulatory compliance, and developing procedures, training, and committees to support a safe, accident-free, environmentally sound, and healthy work environment.

Your Responsibilities
  • Implement and maintain all Health & Safety / Environmental policies and procedures as per relevant Federal, Provincial, or internal requirements.
  • Champion the H&S, Environmental, Ergonomics Assessment and related Inspections and Audits, and resulting Action Plans.
  • Manage HWIN (Waste Manifests, account upkeep with the Ministry etc.), NPRI, TRA, ECA applications / upkeep, including all legal aspects & reporting.
  • Manage WSIB claims and lost time statistics, and timely submission of the WSIB Form 7, applications for SIEF addressing objections and follow-up.
  • Conduct studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.
  • Inspect or tour organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommend corrective or preventative measures where indicated.
  • Participate in Magna Safety Group, ensuring compliance with WSIB Workwell Audit and practices, communication of Best Practices, and attend all meetings.
  • Liaise with Company Nurse to manage the Modified Work Program along with the Disability Claims in order to facilitate the employee's return to work on a timely basis.
  • Point of contact for Tyco Security, including alarm contact and investigative follow-up.
  • Arrange H&S / Ergonomics Meetings, notify members, participate as a Joint Health & Safety member, and set up / record meeting minutes / initiate monthly workplace inspections.
  • Set up / ensure completion of Workplace Inspections for all departments.
  • Assist in monitoring contracts for employee PPE, including uniforms, safety glasses, earplugs, etc.
  • Arrange / deliver in-house Safety / Environment/Ergonomic training.
  • Maintain / update online SDS, providing hard copy for easy access, ensuring compliance and accurate purchasing process has been followed.
  • Demonstrate Continuous Improvement through investigating / recommending Best Practices for all areas of Ergonomics / Safety / Environment.
  • Set example, enforce, and take a proactive approach to enforce safe working conditions for all employees.
  • Maintain / update any binders / databases for Safety / Environment / Ergonomics, including preparation and submission of reports / Action Plans as per Audit / Inspection requirements.
  • Maintain and update safety / environment training matrix, records requirements / dates of courses and books / notify employees accordingly.
  • Cross-functional training of tasks in Human Resources Department.
Other Responsibilities
  • Continuously adhere to and apply the Magna Employee's Charter, the Magna Corporate Constitution, and the Magna Operational Principles in all aspects of position and interaction with others.
  • Effective use of MBCMs Escalation Process.
  • Compliance to IATF customer requirements.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings and training.
  • Understand and follow established rules, procedures, and policies relating to position.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by observing safe work practices and by following all safety policies and procedures.

Requirements

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced HSE professional who can champion our HSE program and ensure regulatory compliance.

Core Competencies
  • Thorough knowledge of application of Federal/Provincial Regulations Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, (OH&SA), Canada Standards Act (CSA), Environmental Standards, Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Workers' Compensation Standards Act.
  • Thorough knowledge of all related reporting obligations for H&S, Enviro, Ergo, WSIB.
  • Effective time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills, including the ability to effectively transfer knowledge to a diverse group of learners.
  • Ability to work independently, source, and vet vendors.
  • Ability to coach, facilitate, and influence a cultural and behavioral change in the workplace.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work in a team, provide situational leadership.
Education/Experience
  • Undergraduate degree in a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years progressive health & safety experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills coupled with expert Excel, Word, Database capabilities.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills; customer-focused.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Industrial Ergonomics, desired.
