Roustabout Job Description

The Roustabout is a vital member of the rig crew, responsible for assisting with various tasks on the drilling decks. This role requires a strong understanding of drilling operations, safety protocols, and equipment maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist with crane operations, including rigging up and down, and ensuring safe lifting practices.
  • Perform manual handling of tubular and tools, including strapping and tallying pipes.
  • Contribute to drilling operations, including tripping and back reaming.
  • Assist with well control and pressure control systems.
  • Perform general maintenance of drilling equipment, including circulating, rotating, and hoisting systems.
  • Inspect and maintain rig floor safety equipment, including snub lines, jerk lines, and shackles.
  • Assist with mud pump repairs and general pump maintenance.
  • Perform housekeeping and cleanliness around the rig floor working area.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma required.
  • Previous experience in the oil industry preferred.
  • Ability to work at heights, in adverse weather conditions, and in hazardous environments.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move objects of up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to operate machinery and power tools.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
