Job Title: Indigenous Cultural Program Coordinator

Central Okanagan Public Schools (School District No. 23) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the position of Indigenous Cultural Program Coordinator. This role will play a vital part in providing education services to 22,000 students in the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, Lake Country, and the Regional District of Central Okanagan.

Job Summary:

The Indigenous Cultural Program Coordinator will work under the general supervision of the Director of Instruction - Indigenous Education and Equity and District Vice-Principals of Indigenous Education. The successful candidate will provide classroom teachers with Indigenous resources, work with Indigenous Advocates to provide cultural materials and presenters, and organize, plan, set up, and participate in cultural events.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide Indigenous resources to classroom teachers
  • Work with Indigenous Advocates to provide cultural materials and presenters
  • Organize, plan, set up, and participate in cultural events
  • Collaborate with the Indigenous community, Indigenous students, and their parents
  • Model cultural teachings and protocols
  • Manage budgets and resources effectively
  • Work as a team member to achieve common goals
  • Utilize Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint) to support job duties
Requirements:
  • Grade 12 plus 2 years of post-secondary education in culturally relevant courses
  • Thorough understanding of Indigenous Culture and history with awareness of cultural protocols
  • Demonstrated experience working with the Indigenous community, Indigenous students, and their parents
  • Ability to model cultural teachings and protocols
  • Experience working with budgets and resources
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to work as a team member
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products
  • Respectful understanding of Okanagan protocols and teachings
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Indigenous applicants of Métis, First Nations, and Inuit ancestral descent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to Indigenous culture and ancestry
