Job Summary:

Great Canadian Entertainment is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Steward to join our team at the Great Blue Heron Casino & Hotel. As a Steward, you will play a critical role in ensuring the cleanliness and organization of our kitchen and cafeteria areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen area at all times, adhering to high standards of food safety and hygiene.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of plates, dishes, cups, utensils, cutlery, and all other related items.
  • Empty garbage containers and cardboard bins, and sweep and mop dish areas as necessary.
  • Assist cooks with kitchen duties and provide coverage to cafeteria attendants for breaks as required.
  • Inspect work areas daily and report any hazards or defective equipment to the Sous Chef/Manager immediately.
  • Comply with all health and safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Report all injuries, accidents, and unusual conditions to the Sous Chef immediately.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of kitchen experience.
  • Must be WHMIS certified.
  • Show initiative and understanding of other roles and responsibilities in the kitchen.
  • Ability to follow instructions in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Be thoroughly familiar with the causes of food poisoning and methods of prevention.
  • Ability to analyze current inventory and develop daily prep lists to control food waste and spoilage.
  • Ability to prioritize and possess excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with fellow employees and management as part of a team.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform tasks and duties effectively and safely within prescribed time limits.
  • The ability to successfully pass a criminal record check.

Working Conditions:

Candidates must be ready and willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnights. The hours of work will be based on operational needs.
