We are currently in search of a caring, passionate, and motivated Registered Practical Nurse with expertise in Behavioral Support and Retirement Home services. This role involves collaborating with our dedicated team to ensure the safety, health, and happiness of our residents. Reporting to the Director of Care and Assistant Director of Care, the BSO-RPN will play a crucial role in providing behavioral support and demonstrating proficiency in dementia care and mental health management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver person-centered care that enhances the abilities and self-esteem of residents, developing strategies to improve their quality of life.
- Conduct thorough assessments utilizing various tools to evaluate resident behaviors, identify risks, and develop caregiver strategies.
- Ensure care plans are responsive to the needs of residents, conducting regular evaluations to mitigate risks.
- Engage with external stakeholders and management to address risks associated with resident behaviors.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and provide comprehensive reports.
- Offer coaching and mentorship to staff to foster collaborative care approaches.
- Conduct reviews of resident care and participate in quality program meetings.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals regarding medication management and its effects on residents.
- Engage in ongoing training and development programs to enhance skills in managing responsive behaviors.
- Adhere to home policies and the Behavioral Support Ontario project.
- Maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including staff, residents, and the community.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and assist with administrative responsibilities as needed.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience, preferably in long-term care, with a solid understanding of the role.
- A degree in human psychology or behavioral sciences is advantageous.
- Bilingualism in English and French is a plus, though not mandatory.
- A genuine passion for caring for seniors.
- Registration or eligibility for registration with the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritizing tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Creative problem-solving abilities to address challenges holistically.
