Job Summary

As a Registered Nurse in Forensic Nursing Services at Fraser Health, you will provide comprehensive forensic nursing care to patients triaged to our program. This role requires a strong understanding of forensic nursing principles and practices, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess patients and collect information from various sources to inform nursing care.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients and the interprofessional care team.
  • Collect, label, handle, and preserve forensic evidence according to established standards and protocols.
  • Document patient care and maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare medical-legal reports as required for legal proceedings.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, caregivers, and members of the interprofessional care team.
  • Participate in research and quality improvement activities to enhance patient care and outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • One year recent related nursing experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Eligibility for completion of a recognized Sexual Assault/Forensic Nurse Examiner program.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment and provide nursing care through appropriate technical, therapeutic, and safety interventions.
  • Ability to demonstrate therapeutic interviewing and communication skills.
  • Ability to promote person-centered care that demonstrates empathy, sensitivity to diverse cultures, and patient advocacy.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate with a variety of professionals from the health and legal professions.
