Overview

The HSE Labour Relations Specialist is responsible for aligning existing programs and new initiatives with compliance to legal and regulatory standards, while enhancing the HSE Labour Relations culture at MAHLE's manufacturing facilities. This role is pivotal in establishing and nurturing effective relationships with union representatives, health and safety officials, colleagues, and clients to foster a collaborative HSE Labour Relations environment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Oversee labour relations in accordance with organizational strategies and manufacturing objectives.
  2. Act as the management representative in labour relations, including the negotiation and administration of collective agreements.
  3. Serve as the point of contact for Union officials regarding disciplinary actions, promotions, transfers, and wage adjustments.
  4. Manage the negotiation and resolution of grievances following established procedures.
  5. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including the Labour Act and Employment Standards.
  6. Prepare documentation for arbitration and labour-related legal cases.
  7. Collaborate with manufacturing management to enforce work rules and ensure equitable application of employee discipline.
  8. Engage with Union representatives on various labour matters.
  9. Monitor and report on employee absenteeism and lost time.
  10. Maintain accurate records and generate reports on labour relations activities.
  11. Analyze trends in labour relations to inform strategic decisions.
  12. Conduct orientation for new employees and exit interviews for unionized staff.

Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)

  1. Continuously enhance the Environmental Health and Safety Program.
  2. Implement ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards through planning, procedures, and audits.
  3. Manage environmental and waste control in line with ISO standards, focusing on waste reduction.
  4. Develop and execute strategies to uphold and enhance environmental standards.
  5. Identify training requirements for employees in collaboration with the HR Department.
  6. Support emergency preparedness and response initiatives.
  7. Present EHS performance reports at management meetings as necessary.
  8. Collaborate with various management levels, engineering teams, HR, and contractors.
  9. Investigate health and safety incidents and recommend corrective actions.
  10. Conduct safety evaluations on new and modified manufacturing equipment.
  11. Facilitate training sessions on the environmental health and safety program.
  12. Coordinate with contractors on EHS-related initiatives.
  13. Report on health and safety performance and potential risks to management.
  14. Ensure compliance with legislative and corporate reporting requirements.

EHS Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Possess knowledge of health and safety legislation applicable in Ontario.
  2. Understand the company's obligations under environmental legislation in Ontario and Canada.
  3. Have a working knowledge of IATF16949, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Labour Studies, Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  2. 3-5 years of experience in a HSE Labour Relations role.
  3. Demonstrated experience with compliance policies and procedures.
  4. Experience in a unionized environment is highly desirable.
  5. Familiarity with manufacturing processes, particularly in plastics, is preferred.
  6. Knowledge of ergonomics or related fields is an asset.
  7. Experience with ISO and OHSAS standards.
  8. Ability to cultivate a safety-oriented culture through active engagement with employees.
