Mental Health Recovery Support Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY
The role of the Recovery Support Worker is integral to an integrated team that collaborates in a residential environment to deliver crisis intervention, coping mechanisms, educational resources, and connections to community services for individuals impacted by mental health challenges, substance use, trauma, and crises.
The Recovery Support Worker (R.S.W.) is dedicated to fostering recovery, stability, and autonomy by offering extensive support to clients. The R.S.W. is responsible for promoting the following: ensuring client safety, assisting with daily living activities, and encouraging active engagement in community events, which includes but is not limited to cooking, cleaning, documentation, participating in group activities, transportation, and shopping.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide crisis support as necessary and report incidents promptly.
- Function independently while being part of a team.
- Maintain professional conduct and ethical standards aligned with First Nations principles.
- Safeguard medications in accordance with relevant regulations.
- Exhibit empathy, compassion, and patience in all interactions.
- Regularly update client records in the designated database.
- May be required to work evenings and weekends.
- Demonstrate reliability and maturity consistently.
- Participate in team meetings regularly.
- Work effectively under pressure.
- Provide coaching and life skills training to clients as appropriate.
- Oversee household duties, ensuring safety and supervision for clients.
- Assist with the client intake process as needed.
- Plan and engage clients in social, recreational, and vocational activities.
- Communicate and enforce client rules and responsibilities assertively yet politely.
- Manage all household tasks, including meal preparation, cleaning, grocery shopping, and laundry.
- Maintain inventory of groceries and household supplies.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Completion of Grade 12 and a diploma or certificate in Social Services or a related field.
- Food Safe Level 1 certification is required.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum of two years' experience in a psychiatric setting with individuals facing complex mental health and addiction issues.
- Experience managing adverse interactions.
- Group work experience with clients is beneficial.
- Experience with client intake processes is advantageous.
- Experience working with Indigenous clients in crisis is preferred.
- Ability to handle confidential information responsibly.
- Proficient in multitasking and managing competing priorities.
- Flexibility and creativity in problem-solving are essential.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to adhere to organizational policies and procedures.
- Understanding and respect for Stó:lō culture and traditions.
- Experience with First Nations communities is an asset.
- Valid BC Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Satisfactory completion of a Criminal Record Check.
