Position Overview:

As a Senior Equipment Maintenance Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that process machinery and equipment are operating at peak efficiency while adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Your expertise will be essential in providing technical support and specialized maintenance services to optimize equipment uptime.

Shift Schedule: 12-hour Continental shifts (rotating monthly between days and nights).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct repairs, refurbishments, and overhauls of machinery and equipment using various machine shop tools, including milling machines and lathes.
  • Perform routine maintenance on production machinery such as Fluid Bed Dryers, Film Coaters, Tablet Presses, Transfer Pumps, Vacuum Systems, and Processing Vessels.
  • Collaborate with Group Leaders and Production Supervisors to plan maintenance downtime in alignment with the Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Ensure timely scheduling of equipment for preventative maintenance and maintain accurate records in compliance with GMP standards.
  • Engage in Operational meetings, Rapid Response sessions, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives as required.
  • Document all maintenance activities within a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Maintain a safe working environment and proactively report any potential hazards.
  • Be prepared to work alternating shifts and during scheduled maintenance shutdowns.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is required.
  • Licensed Industrial Millwright certification is mandatory.
  • Certification as an Ontario Trades Person is preferred.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in industrial mechanics or equivalent maintenance roles, ideally within the food, cosmetic, or pharmaceutical sectors.
  • 1 to 3 years of millwright experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Familiarity with Maximo CMMS is preferred.

Equivalency:

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations is essential. A proactive and organized approach to task completion is required, along with a keen attention to detail and quality. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary for effective communication with both internal and external clients. A solid understanding of electronics and pneumatics is beneficial, as is proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Proficiency in the English language is required.

Execute all responsibilities in strict compliance with Thermo Fisher Scientific quality systems, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Maintain a clean and organized workspace. Actively participate in departmental systems to ensure efficient workflow, including visual management and scheduling systems. Maintain a client-focused approach at all times. Understand Key Performance Indicators and strive for continuous improvement in team performance by identifying areas for enhancement and engaging in problem-solving initiatives. Exhibit a positive attitude and adaptability to changing priorities and work methods. Proactively identify opportunities for procedural improvements and communicate potential risks to project timelines.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to navigate manufacturing and office environments, including standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and crouching for extended periods. The role involves the manipulation of light to medium weights (up to 40 pounds) and requires dexterity in hands and fingers. Visual acuity is necessary for operating equipment and reading materials. While the work environment is generally comfortable, there may be exposure to moderate physical discomfort from dust, noise, bright lights, and odors. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory and may include safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coats, gloves, hair nets, beard covers, safety aprons, and respirators.
