About the Role

Brandt is seeking a highly skilled Service Manager to lead our service department in Smithers. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the sales and delivery of after-market support services for heavy duty equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Service Workflow Management: Oversee the day-to-day activities of foremen, leadmen, service writers, and shop, field, and resident heavy duty mechanics.
  • Standard Enforcement and Reporting: Ensure that all aspects of the service department operate in accordance with established standards, policies, and reporting practices.
  • Budget Development and Management: Develop and manage the Service Department budget to meet financial and operational goals.
  • Quote Preparation and Work Order Management: Prepare quotes for customer work orders and manage the opening and closing of work orders.
  • Customer Equipment Inspection and Operation: Inspect and operate customer equipment as part of resolving concerns and diagnostics.
  • Service Revenue and Expense Monitoring: Monitor service revenue and expenses on a monthly basis.
  • Safety and Industry Standards: Ensure that all work is performed according to established safety and industry standards.
  • Employee Performance Review: Review employee performance against goals on an ongoing basis.
  • Team Development and Management: Maintain a high-performance Service team through hiring, training, coaching, mentoring, and performance management in a safe environment.

  • Self-Motivation and Knowledge Sharing: Must be self-motivated in learning and applying new knowledge and skills and is willing to share knowledge with others.
  • Travel and Heavy Equipment Operation: Must be able to travel to customer worksites and operate or work on or around heavy equipment as required.
  • Technical Skills: Must be proficient in using work-related desktop applications and web-based productivity applications.
  • Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking: Has the confidence, critical thinking, knowledge, and technical skills to assess and solve customer, business, and personnel problems effectively and efficiently.
  • Driver's Abstract: A recent driver's abstract will be required.
Required Experience
  • Occupational Health and Safety Commitment: Demonstrates a strong commitment to occupational health and safety.
  • Progressive Experience: 5-7 years' progressive, combined experience in service, management, and business, including journeyperson heavy duty mechanic experience and 3 years' management/supervisory experience in the heavy duty equipment industry.
  • Heavy Duty Equipment Industry Knowledge: Has a solid foundation of knowledge and skill in the operation of a heavy duty equipment dealership.
  • Organizational and Time Management Skills: Demonstrated ability to organize work, set priorities, and achieve work-related objectives and goals.
  • Customer Service Orientation: Demonstrates a strong customer service orientation and exercises sound judgment when dealing with customers.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Able to communicate effectively and professionally with customers, employees, and branch personnel at all levels.
  • Self-Motivation and Knowledge Sharing: Must be self-motivated in learning and applying new knowledge and skills and is willing to share knowledge with others.
