Calgary, Alberta, Canada The University of Calgary Full time

The University of Calgary (UCalgary) is situated in Southern Alberta and honors the traditional lands of the Treaty 7 peoples, which include the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Piikani, Kainai First Nations), Tsuut'ina First Nation, and Stoney Nakoda (Chiniki, Bearspaw, Goodstoney First Nations). The institution also acknowledges that Calgary is home to Region III of the Métis Nation of Alberta.

As treaty people, we recognize our shared responsibility to this land and its diverse communities. UCalgary is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment that allows all members of our community to thrive. The Inclusive Excellence Cluster Hiring Initiative has been established to further our dedication to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility, particularly in relation to Indigenous engagement and excellence.

The Werklund School of Education is seeking applications for an Indigenous scholar in Education at the rank of Assistant Professor (Tenure-track) or Associate Professor (With Tenure). The successful candidate will focus on leadership, policy, and governance, critically analyzing educational policies and enhancing school leadership practices to incorporate Indigenous perspectives in alignment with provincial standards.

  • This position is exclusively open to qualified Indigenous scholars (First Nations [Status, Non-Status], Métis, or Inuit), who must provide verifiable proof of their Indigenous identity.

This role offers an exceptional opportunity for distinguished researchers to develop and sustain active research programs that utilize Indigenous methodologies, knowledge, and values, ultimately contributing to the success of Indigenous children and youth. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a capacity to secure competitive research funding to support innovative and impactful research initiatives within a collaborative environment.

The successful candidate will possess strong relational commitments to students and Indigenous communities, supervise graduate students, teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses, and exhibit leadership in service, collaboration, and mentorship within the University and the broader community.

Joining this position means becoming part of a supportive network across the University of Calgary, including the UCalgary Circle of Advisors, Elders, the Taylor Institute, and the Vice-Provost (Indigenous Engagement) team. The Circle of Indigenous Scholars provides a platform for Indigenous scholars to connect, share, and address issues pertinent to their communities.
