Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Swim Instructor and Lifeguard to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Toronto. As a Swim Instructor and Lifeguard, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality swim lessons to our members, while also ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants in the pool area.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver swim lessons to members of all ages and skill levels, using a variety of teaching methods and techniques to ensure a fun and engaging learning experience.
  • Conduct lifeguarding duties, including responding to emergencies and maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all participants.
  • Set up and take down pool equipment, ensuring that it is safe and in good working order.
  • Complete a safety check of lifesaving equipment prior to each shift.
  • Assist with cleaning duties related to the pool and equipment.
  • Ensure that all qualifications and certifications are current and up-to-date, as required by the YMCA and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in scheduled programs, meetings, and special events, as required.
Qualifications
  • Current certifications in National Lifeguard (NL) and Standard First Aid & CPR level C.
  • Current YMCA or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification.
  • Previous experience instructing swim lessons is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish rapport with members, staff, and volunteers.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and building a sense of belonging.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned hours of work, including weekday afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
