Position Overview:
The Senior Special Projects Engineer is responsible for delivering specialized engineering services that include inspections, condition evaluations, safety infrastructure assessments, emergency response strategies, and comprehensive planning input. This role plays a critical part in supporting capital projects across various client departments by utilizing data gathered from site evaluations and building assessments.

Key Responsibilities:
The incumbent will oversee the following tasks:

  • Direct the development and execution of Facility Condition Indexes based on data from site inspections and assessments to prioritize capital projects effectively.
  • Manage and allocate inspection and estimation services for data collection, ensuring accurate scopes of work for capital project requests.
  • Oversee project budgets and expenditures, ensuring that project deliverables are met within the established financial authority.
  • Guide and supervise the work of external consultants on both single-discipline and multi-disciplinary projects, while developing departmental standards and specifications.
  • Present engineering findings and recommendations to various stakeholders, facilitating informed decision-making processes.

Qualifications:
Essential:
The ideal candidate will possess:

  • An undergraduate degree in Engineering.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer with the relevant provincial association.
  • Experience in interpreting construction plans and specifications, particularly in mechanical engineering systems.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis, along with project management experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the ability to supervise and mentor technical staff.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and health practices.

Desired:
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:

  • Experience in developing Facility Condition Indexes or Building Condition Assessments.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.

Conditions of Employment:
Applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver's license with no restrictions.
  • Willingness to travel within the province as required.
  • Ability to provide personal transportation for work-related travel.
