Become part of a dynamic and innovative organization dedicated to mental health and excellence in patient-centered care. Collaborate with a team of dedicated professionals who are committed to enhancing lives and promoting quality and continuous improvement.

Position Overview

CB Canada has teamed up with the College of Nurses of Ontario to assist you in fulfilling the evidence of practice and language proficiency criteria necessary to become a registered nurse in Ontario.

If you are an internationally educated nurse still working towards these requirements, this role is tailored for you.

As an Internationally Educated Nurse engaged in the Supervised Practice Experience Partnership (SPEP), you will play a crucial role within a collaborative, interdisciplinary team focused on delivering comprehensive services and programs to our clients.

SPEP allows you to gain practical experience for a minimum of 140 hours under the direct guidance of a preceptor, while you apply and enhance your skills in providing both direct and indirect patient care within a supportive team framework.

If you seek an organization that is continually advancing towards successful outcomes, you will find a welcoming environment here.

Key Responsibilities

You will be assigned to a specific unit or program, integrated into the clinical team, and receive mentorship and supervision from a regulated healthcare professional who will support and guide you as you demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and competencies in your designated area.

Upon successful registration with the CNO, you will transition into a registered nursing position within the bargaining unit to:

  • Deliver nursing care to patients with addiction issues and/or various mental health conditions
  • Adapt to changing patient care requirements in accordance with CNO standards, RNAO Best Practice Guidelines, specific program philosophies, and diverse patient populations
  • Manage patient assignments and adhere to care plans
  • Administer psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments
  • Conduct clinical assessments upon admission and at various intervals, e.g., Mental Status Exam
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and individual team members as appropriate
  • Engage in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences
Qualifications

  • Proof of participation in, or eligibility for, the Supervised Practice Experience Partnership as outlined on the CNO Registration Portal
  • Verification of international nursing education and experience
  • Capability to effectively manage crisis situations and care for acutely ill patients
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a respectful communication style with patients, families, and colleagues
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Proficient computer skills and a willingness to learn new systems
  • Flexibility regarding work schedules
The following qualifications are advantageous but not mandatory:
o Familiarity with the Mental Health Act (MHA), documentation standards (CNO), and privacy legislation (PHIPA)
o Previous training in mental health nursing, boundaries, suicide awareness, and medication administration
o Knowledge of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and experience in group facilitation

In alignment with our commitment to the health and safety of our patients, staff, and community regarding COVID-19, and subject to any accommodations required by applicable human rights legislation, CB Canada mandates that all staff have received all necessary doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada.
