Position Overview:The Senior Safety Specialist will be pivotal in fostering a strong safety culture within the organization, adhering to the principle that "Safety Starts with Me" and striving for "Zero by Choice". This role involves the development, implementation, and ongoing management of Pembina's Safety Program tailored for the project phase, commissioning, and operational transition of the Cedar LNG asset. The Specialist will ensure compliance with safety standards, policies, and procedures in line with legislation and best practices.
Reporting to the Director of Occupational Health & Safety, the Specialist will provide expert guidance to the project team, addressing daily safety concerns throughout the construction and operational phases. This role will also include support for offshore construction activities.
This position is primarily based in the corporate office, with travel to the project site as necessary, and may transition to the operational site as the project progresses.
Key Responsibilities:- Implement and maintain Cedar LNG's Safety Program, developing necessary Health and Safety standards and procedures.
- Act as the primary liaison between the Pembina Safety Department and the Cedar LNG Project team.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory bodies, including WorkSafeBC, ESDC, Technical Safety BC, and BC Energy Regulator.
- Conduct assessments to identify regulatory gaps and document findings.
- Support incident investigations and ensure timely reporting and resolution of safety incidents.
- Collaborate with the Emergency Management Team to develop Emergency Response Plans.
- Establish and maintain project Health and Safety Policies aligned with Pembina's overall policies.
- Facilitate Health and Safety training for employees and contractors.
- Promote a proactive Health and Safety culture through employee engagement and education initiatives.
- Maintain relationships with local authorities and regulatory agencies.
- Champion continuous improvement in Health and Safety practices.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of construction activities.
- Over 10 years of experience in oil and gas or petrochemical sectors.
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety with Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation.
- Experience in marine construction and LNG operations.
- Strong understanding of industry safety standards and regulations.
- Proven ability to lead change and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Proficient in MS Office and familiar with business intelligence tools.
- Extensive experience with ISNetworld, including data management and auditing protocols.
