Role Overview: Lead the coordination and enhancement of relationships with Indigenous communities on behalf of Louisiana-Pacific Corporation (LP) in British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and interpret governmental policies related to Indigenous affairs, assessing their potential impact on organizational operations.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for LP, managing communications with Indigenous officials, community members, and various agencies.
  • Review and align internal policies, plans, and programs with provincial and federal legislation concerning Indigenous matters.
  • Support and engage in company-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, focusing on integrating Indigenous perspectives and cultural awareness training.
  • Advise the organization on project development issues, assisting in the formulation of effective solutions and strategies.
  • Facilitate the negotiation of agreements between LP and Indigenous groups as necessary.
  • Build and nurture relationships with leaders of Indigenous communities, particularly where existing partnership agreements are in place.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts across Canadian operations.
  • Work alongside other Canadian regions and corporate functional groups, such as Certification and Sustainability, to enhance effectiveness and share best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of Indigenous perspectives, acquired through engagement with Indigenous communities on planning, strategy, regulatory, capacity building, and educational projects.
  • Familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), as well as British Columbia's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA).
  • Comprehensive understanding of relevant federal and provincial legislation and policies.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement engagement and outreach strategies.
  • Strong skills in report writing, public speaking, event coordination, and communication material development.
  • Adept at working collaboratively and building networks both internally and externally.
  • Undergraduate degree, college diploma, or professional certification in a related field (e.g., Indigenous Studies, Aboriginal Law, Environmental Management, Economics, Engineering, Accounting, Communications, Public Policy, or a related discipline).
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
