Position Overview

The Laboratory Support Technician plays a vital role in the healthcare system by assisting in various laboratory operations. This position involves working closely with the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine team to ensure efficient pre-analytical and post-analytical processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in specimen collection, processing, and management.
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare media, reagents, and smears as required.
  • Conduct sterilization and clerical tasks to support laboratory functions.
  • Load specimens onto analyzers and ensure proper handling.
  • Manage supplies and troubleshoot equipment as necessary.
  • Provide excellent customer service and interact with various stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations and current registration with the relevant professional body.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Attention to detail and manual dexterity for handling instruments.
  • Ability to perform tasks with precision and adapt to procedural changes.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with laboratory information systems is an asset.
  • Reliable transportation may be necessary for travel to various locations.

Work Environment

This is a temporary full-time position requiring approximately 75 hours bi-weekly. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic laboratory setting and may be required to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
