Job Description

Role Summary

The Scarborough Community Legal Services (SCLS) Board of Directors is seeking a dedicated and community-minded individual to join our team as a Board Member. As a key member of our leadership team, you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of our organization and ensuring the financial health and stability of SCLS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in monthly Board meetings and contribute to decision-making processes.
  • Collaborate with Board Members and staff to achieve organizational goals.
  • Provide guidance and oversight to ensure the effective management of SCLS.
  • Support the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Represent SCLS in the community and promote our mission and values.

Requirements

  • Strong community connections and community organizing skills.
  • A commitment to social justice and serving low-income individuals and families.
  • Support for our values and mission.
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • A personal commitment to give the time necessary to meet the responsibilities of a Board Member.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Residents of East Scarborough.
  • Members of marginalized communities—particularly Black, Francophone, and Indigenous communities—and applicants who have used clinic services in the past.
  • Applicants with experience in the non-profit sector, especially in community service and organizing.

Commitment

Board Members are expected to commit time and resources to prepare for and attend monthly Board meetings. This position requires an average time commitment of approximately 4 hours per month.
