Job Overview

WSP is excited to announce an opportunity for an Intermediate Water Resources Engineer, Intermediate Hydrotechnical Engineer, Intermediate River Engineer, or Civil Engineer with a specialization in Water Resources to become a part of our Water Resources Engineering Group in the Prairies and North Region. This position is available on a full-time basis in various locations across Canada.

The Water Resources team is engaged in delivering a wide range of hydrology and hydrotechnical civil engineering services for numerous prestigious projects across Canada and internationally. As a vital member of this interdisciplinary team, you will apply engineering principles to facilitate various water resources studies and civil construction initiatives. Your role will also encompass providing leadership, mentoring, and technical expertise in water resources, civil engineering, and environmental projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead or assist in water resources projects such as flood assessments, flood mapping, and mitigation designs.
  • Conduct hydraulic and hydrologic analyses, including the design of hydraulic structures and water control systems.
  • Perform open-channel hydraulics and hydraulic modeling in 1D and 2D.
  • Execute dam breach modeling and assessments for various flow regimes.
  • Participate in diverse water resources engineering projects throughout the proposal, planning, and execution phases.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and scope adjustments effectively.
  • Prepare proposals and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams and communicate effectively with clients.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff members.
  • Uphold health and safety standards in all business operations.
Qualifications:
  • Eligibility for immediate registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in surface water resources engineering.
  • Proficiency in hydrologic modeling and open-channel hydraulics modeling (1D, 2D, and 3D as an asset).
  • Experience in river engineering, erosion protection, and scour analysis.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering, with a focus on hydraulic modeling preferred.
  • Familiarity with dam breach modeling and assessment techniques is advantageous.
  • Strong communication, leadership, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to manage time and resources efficiently.
  • Excellent technical writing capabilities.
