Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Urban Planning Specialist to join our team at the City of Hamilton. As a key member of our Development Planning department, you will play a critical role in reviewing and evaluating complex development applications, ensuring that planning and municipal objectives are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate complex development applications, including subdivisions, condominiums, and rezoning requests.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for standing committees, Council, and delegated approval authorities.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that all planning and municipal objectives are considered and adhered to.
  • Develop and implement planning requirements and conditions to resolve disputes and policy interpretations.
  • Present development applications and recommendations to Committee/Council.
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant legislation, zoning by-laws, and planning policy documents.
  • Provide planning support and expertise to junior planners and students as required.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in land use planning.
  • Strong knowledge of zoning by-laws and development planning.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high level of proficiency in research and computerized analytical techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare and present reports, policies, and strategies.
  • Familiarity with government and the political environment, including relevant Federal and Provincial policy and legislation.
  • Full membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners.
  • Working experience in Microsoft Office.
