Job Summary

Curtiss-Wright is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Test Department Manager to lead our team of test technicians in a project manufacturing/make to order production environment. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for effectively planning, coordinating, and directing all activities within the Test Department to ensure the successful execution of test programs and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the execution of test programs, ensuring appropriate resource allocation to meet requirements for production and engineering/development test programs.
  • Manage field service schedules and resource allocation for customer field support.
  • Lead process improvements within the Test Department.
  • Develop and maintain test department standard work instructions (SWI).
  • Develop safety guidelines and procedures, including job hazard analysis (JHA), and ensure training of test department staff and compliance with procedures.
  • Maintain budgets and monitor department cost performance.
  • Plan, manage, and coordinate pre-test activities to ensure all required equipment and resources are available to meet production requirements.
  • Conduct troubleshooting, investigate test failures, perform root cause analysis, and develop appropriate corrective actions.
  • Manage test equipment calibration programs in conjunction with Quality Assurance.
  • Maintain test department tooling and instrumentation inventory.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for the test department, maintain cross-training matrices, and ensure qualified resources are available to meet production requirements at all times.
  • Responsible for the execution of work programs following all applicable safety procedures and Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements.
  • Work directly with Scheduling and Production Control departments to ensure alignment with required production priorities and work assignments.
  • Maintain good shop housekeeping and organization, lead the department 6S program.

  • Test Department Supervisor, Test Technicians (13 direct reports)

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of managerial/supervisory experience in a multi-disciplinary, make to order defense industrial environment.
  • Strong practical and theoretical understanding of electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and controls, mechanical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to design/develop test fixtures, test/data acquisition systems, setup, and execute test programs and procedures.
  • Experience creating technical procedures, schematics/sketches, presentations, reports, and work instructions.
  • Experience with technical troubleshooting. Failure/root cause analysis experience would be considered an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), interpret/analyze manufacturing schedules.
  • ERP system experience would be considered an asset. Oracle EBS preferred.

Education Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in engineering or a relevant technical field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) preferred.
