Position Overview:

The University of Toronto is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of a Sessional Lecturer for a course focused on Pharmacokinetics (PK). This position is integral to the Faculty of Pharmacy, where the candidate will engage with students in a dynamic learning environment.

Course Focus:

This course delves into the essential principles of Pharmacokinetics, exploring how the body interacts with drugs. Students will gain insights into the drug development process and its applications in precision medicine. The curriculum will cover key PK modeling techniques, including population PK (PopPK) and physiologically based PK (PBPK) models. Participants will have the opportunity to utilize software tools such as PhoenixTM NLME and PK-Sim to develop these models.

Learning Outcomes:

Students will learn to:

  • Establish initial dosing strategies
  • Compare different drug formulations
  • Scale PK data across species
  • Assess the relationship between clinical factors and PK parameters
  • Design relevant experiments

The course will culminate in a panel discussion featuring PK professionals, providing students with valuable insights into career opportunities in the field.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a strong academic background in Pharmacokinetics and experience with PBPK modeling. Teaching experience, particularly with PK-Sim software, is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the course coordinator to refine the syllabus
  • Co-facilitate a weekly two-hour class, including a tutorial session
  • Develop and assess assignments
  • Guide students through tutorials and provide support with PK-Sim software

All duties will be conducted on the campus where the position is based.

Support and Enrollment:

This course is expected to enroll approximately 15 students, with no teaching assistant support anticipated.

Compensation:

The remuneration for this position is set at $4,729, in addition to vacation pay.

Additional Information:

This position is governed by the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement, which outlines the terms of employment and conditions. Preference will be given to candidates who have achieved the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or III.
