Position Overview:

The University of Toronto is seeking a qualified individual to fill the role of Lecturer in Pharmacokinetics. This position is within the Faculty of Pharmacy and involves teaching a course that explores the fundamental principles of pharmacokinetics (PK) and its applications in pharmaceutical sciences.

Course Focus:

This course will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of how the body interacts with drugs, emphasizing the significance of PK in drug development and precision medicine. The curriculum will cover essential PK concepts and introduce two primary modeling approaches: population pharmacokinetics (PopPK) and physiologically based pharmacokinetics (PBPK). Students will gain hands-on experience in creating PopPK and PBPK models using industry-standard software.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the course, students will be equipped with valuable skills applicable across various sectors within pharmaceutical sciences. They will learn to:

  • Identify appropriate starting doses for drug formulations.
  • Compare different drug formulations effectively.
  • Scale pharmacokinetic data between species.
  • Evaluate the relationship between clinical factors and pharmacokinetic parameters.
  • Design experiments to further investigate pharmacokinetic properties.

The course will culminate in a panel discussion featuring professionals in the field, providing students with insights into potential career paths.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a strong academic background in pharmacokinetics and experience with PBPK modeling. Proficiency in teaching with PK-Sim software is essential, and prior teaching experience is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the course coordinator to refine the syllabus.
  • Conduct a weekly two-hour class, including a tutorial session.
  • Develop and grade quizzes and assignments.
  • Facilitate tutorials and assist students with PK-Sim software.

Additional Information:

This position is expected to involve approximately 20 hours of direct student interaction per week. The estimated course enrollment is 15 students, and the compensation for this role includes a competitive rate of pay.

This position is governed by the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement.
