Position Overview:

The Mechanical Engineer plays a crucial role in delivering technical assistance to various maintenance teams across the site. Collaborating closely with the Senior Mechanical Engineer, this position involves mentorship and oversight of components and structures to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards. The engineer will be responsible for designing and executing projects within the defined budget, timeline, and quality benchmarks, while adhering to health, safety, environmental, regulatory, and internal corporate guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Senior Project Specialist, collaborating with the Senior Mechanical Engineer to review site plans and assist in mechanical and structural evaluations.
  • Engage in site assessments and evaluations of existing structures, including subsurface infrastructure.
  • Analyze technical drawings and compile reports and studies.
  • Work in tandem with Maintenance Planners to enhance weekly maintenance processes and contribute to the ongoing improvement of maintenance strategies, including the effective use of electronic Asset Management systems.
  • Monitor and assess planned and unplanned downtime, aiding in root cause analysis for equipment failures and production losses.
  • Participate in criticality assessments for essential assets, developing processes that align with corporate and industry best practices.
  • Assist the Plant Department in managing changes related to maintenance procedures, materials, and new equipment acquisitions.
  • Provide support to maintenance personnel regarding budgeting, cost tracking, and variance analysis.
  • Collaborate with the Supply Team to identify essential spare parts and optimize procurement and inventory management.
  • Promote the exchange of best practices among maintenance teams across the site, striving for uniformity in maintenance strategies.
  • Aid in the preparation of cost estimates and product sourcing, ensuring scope requirements are validated.
  • Assist with engineering tasks on projects of varying complexity.
  • Offer technical and engineering support to maintenance staff as needed.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and adherence to safe work practices, fostering a culture of safety, health, and environmental compliance.
  • Support the formulation of the department's annual execution plan, establishing specific goals and objectives.
  • Prepare Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) documentation.

Required Qualifications:

  • A degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Ideally, 5 to 7 years of practical engineering experience in mining or a related industrial sector.
  • Progressing towards Professional Engineer registration in Ontario.
  • Familiarity with SAP or other electronic Enterprise Asset Management systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated initiative and a successful track record of implementing change.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams.
  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in software such as SAP, Ivara, Viziya, Xeras, MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Deswik.
