About the Role

The Mechanical Engineer will provide technical support to site maintenance groups, working alongside Senior Mechanical Engineers in a mentorship program to review and monitor site components and structures. The successful candidate will design and deliver assigned projects within approved budget, schedule, and quality parameters, ensuring compliance with established health, safety, environmental, regulatory, and internal corporate requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Senior Project Specialist, the Mechanical Engineer will work alongside Senior Mechanical Engineers in a mentorship program to review site drawings and assist in mechanical/structural reviews.
  • Participate in site investigations and evaluations of existing buildings structurally, including underground infrastructure.
  • Review drawings, prepare reports/studies, and work closely with Maintenance Planners to streamline the weekly maintenance workflow.
  • Assist with the continuous improvement of maintenance strategy and improving the use of the electronic Asset Management system (SAP).
  • Track and review planned/unplanned downtime and assist with Root Cause analysis for failure of equipment major components and any losses to process/production.
  • Partake in the criticality assessment review for key assets and develop this process to align with Corporate and industry best practices.
  • Support the Plant Department with the Management of Change associated with maintenance procedures, materials, and acquisition of new equipment.
  • Provide support to other maintenance staff for maintenance budgeting, cost reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Work with the Supply Team to identify critical spares and streamline the procurement/stocking of replacement parts.
  • Facilitate the sharing of best practices between maintenance groups across site and work towards facility-wide commonality of maintenance strategies.
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates and sourcing products, validate scope requirements, and assist with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.
  • Provide technical/engineering support to other maintenance staff as required.
  • Participate in development, implementation, and adherence to safe work procedures and promote high safety, health, and environmental awareness and compliance to all standards.
  • Support development of the department's annual execution plan and develops area-specific goals and objectives.
  • Prepare AFEs.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in Mechanical/Civil/Industrial Engineering or relevant experience.
  • Preferably 5 to 7 years of practical engineering experience working in mining or other industrial fields.
  • Working towards registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • Experience with SAP or other electronic Enterprise Asset Management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates high levels of initiative and preferably has a history of successfully implementing change.
  • Strong prioritization, organization, and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to self-direct and work well within a team.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage priorities and work on various projects concurrently.
  • Experience with the following or similar software: SAP, Ivara, Viziya, Xeras, MS Office, MS Project, AutoCad, Civil 3D, Deswik.
