Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer provides technical support to all site maintenance groups. Working alongside Sr Mechanical Engineer in a mentorship program, the successful candidate will review, monitor, and meet the requirements of site components and structures safely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reporting to the Senior Project Specialist, the Mechanical Engineer will work alongside Sr Mechanical Engineer in a mentorship program, reviewing site drawings and assisting in mechanical/structural reviews.
  • Participate in site investigations and evaluations of existing buildings structurally, including underground infrastructure.
  • Review drawings, prepare reports/studies, and work closely with Maintenance Planners to streamline the weekly maintenance workflow.
  • Assist with the continuous improvement of maintenance strategy and improving use of the electronic Asset Management system (SAP).
  • Track and review planned/unplanned downtime and assist with Root Cause analysis for failure of equipment major components and any losses to process/production.
  • Partake in the criticality assessment review for key assets and develop this process to align with Corporate and industry best practices.
  • Support the Plant Department with the Management of Change associated with maintenance procedures, materials, and acquisition of new equipment.
  • Provide support to other maintenance staff for maintenance budgeting, cost reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Work with the Supply Team to identify critical spares and streamline the procurement/stocking of replacement parts.
  • Facilitate the sharing of best practices between maintenance groups across site and work towards facility-wide commonality of maintenance strategies.
  • Assist in preparing cost estimates and sourcing products, validate scope requirements.
  • Assist with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.
  • Provide technical/engineering support to other maintenance staff as required.
  • Participate in development, implementation, and adherence to safe work procedures and promote high safety, health, and environmental awareness and compliance to all standards.
  • Support development of the department's annual execution plan and develops area-specific, goals, and objectives.
  • AFE preparation.

Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Degree in Mechanical/Civil/Industrial Engineering or relevant experience.
  • Preferably 5 to 7 years of practical engineering experience working in mining or other industrial fields.
  • Working towards registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • Experience with SAP or other electronic Enterprise Asset Management systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates high levels of initiative and preferably has a history of successfully implementing change.
  • Strong prioritization, organization, and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to self-direct and work well within a team.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage priorities and work on various projects concurrently.
  • Experience with the following or similar software: SAP, Ivara, Viziya, Xeras, MS Office, MS Project, AutoCad, Civil 3D, Deswik.
