About The Opportunity

The Senior Mine Engineer will be responsible for executing and supervising engineering activities related to mine planning, ground stability, ventilation systems, and coordinating with operational teams to support production timelines.

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the Senior Mine Engineer will undertake the following duties:

  1. Oversee, mentor, and guide planners, engineering interns, mine technicians, and co-op students within the engineering division.
  2. Manage, coordinate, and produce engineering outputs including short, medium, and long-term planning, infrastructure and ventilation designs, geotechnical assessments, reconciliations, and reporting.
  3. Formulate, enhance, and implement short and medium-term mine strategies to meet budgetary and long-term goals safely and economically.
  4. Align mine planning efforts with geology, longhole drilling, ground stability, ventilation, surveying, and mine operations.
  5. Collaborate closely with operational and technical teams to ensure optimal resource utilization.
  6. Lead weekly planning discussions with key personnel to synchronize activities and achieve objectives.
  7. Assist in the preparation of the annual mine site budget and quarterly forecasts, engaging with stakeholders.
  8. Facilitate strategic long-term mine planning sessions, incorporating input from all relevant parties.
  9. Contribute to the compilation of monthly engineering reports and stope reconciliations.
  10. Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, regulations, safety, and environmental practices.
  11. Identify and resolve issues that arise, analyzing and proposing solutions to ensure mining operations proceed as planned.
  12. In collaboration with the mine team, assess alternative optimized methods for ore extraction, stope access, and mining sequences, detailing the costs, benefits, and challenges of each approach.
  13. Support the development of engineering policies and procedures.
  14. Engage actively in training programs and initiatives for personal and job improvement.
  15. Continuously enhance the skills and knowledge necessary to adapt to evolving methods and technologies.
  16. Assist and coordinate special projects within the planning and projects teams.
  17. Perform additional duties as required.
More About You

Key Qualifications:

  1. Accredited as a fully qualified Professional Engineer in good standing with a minimum of 6 to 8 years of relevant experience post-graduation.
  2. Experience supervising technical staff, including engineering professionals, interns, and technicians.
  3. Demonstrated leadership, initiative, and innovative analytical thinking.
  4. Essential background in narrow-vein, long-hole, and conventional mining techniques.
  5. Experience with cemented rock fill (CRF) and paste fill is considered an asset.
  6. Familiarity with underground water management is advantageous.
  7. Knowledge of engineering methodologies as they pertain to ore body evaluation and mining operations.
  8. Strong communication capabilities.
  9. Proficient computer skills, including the ability to create and utilize Excel spreadsheets and work with CAD and scheduling software (Deswik, Amine, AutoCAD, EPS).
  10. Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Project).
  11. Excellent organizational and time management skills are essential. The ability to collaborate effectively with both operations and engineering teams is crucial for success.
