Position Overview:
The Director of Insurance Strategy, Office of the CIO will report directly to the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Sun Life. This role is pivotal in enhancing the capital efficiency of the asset strategy for the insurance sector.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the CIO to evaluate asset class strategies and sector allocations that align with the insurance company’s specific needs, risk tolerance, and regulatory standards.
  2. Optimize capital for General Account investments by delivering value through innovative capital solutions and engaging with both internal and external stakeholders.
  3. Serve as a resource for structuring, accessing, and distributing capital for both SLF and SLC clients.
  4. Act as a liaison with the SLC Management Client Solutions team to enhance structural optimization.
  5. Stay informed on new strategies or products through engagement with dealers, consultants, and product offerings, assessing their applicability for General Account use.
  6. Utilize the insurance strategy to enhance risk-adjusted returns over both short and long-term horizons under the guidance of the CIO.
  7. Analyze liabilities and identify synergies between asset managers and the insurer, providing expert insights on managing Sun Life's portfolio to drive asset strategy.

Qualifications:

  1. MBA, CFA, or an advanced degree is preferred.
  2. Over 10 years of experience in asset management, investment strategy, or project management.
  3. Experience in insurance strategy is highly desirable.
  4. In-depth market knowledge and understanding of capital efficiency.
  5. Proven ability to manage diverse initiatives with competing deadlines.
  6. Strategic thinker with the capability to navigate details for effective execution.
  7. Strong planning skills to align work with organizational strategic objectives.
  8. Analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  9. High level of integrity, maintaining discretion and confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
