About the Role

The Computer Lab Assistant at Douglas College provides technical support and assistance to students with software, networking, and operating systems in various courses. This role involves providing in-person and online peer tutoring, helping students with software applications, and assisting instructors and students in the CSIS labs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with software applications, including Cisco Packet Tracer, Eclipse/IntelliJ IDEA, and Microsoft Office.
  • Provide technical support for networking, operating systems, and virtual machines.
  • Help instructors and students with lab-related tasks and projects.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of software applications, networking, and operating systems.

Requirements

  • Effective English verbal communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of Windows OS, Internet browsers, and Visual Studio.
  • Good working knowledge of Cisco Packet Tracer, Wireshark, and Oracle VirtualBox.
  • Basic working knowledge of Windows 10, Windows Server, and Ubuntu.
  • Successful completion of CSIS1275 or CSIS2175 with a "B+" or higher grade.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Domestic students must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in at least one 3-credit course at Douglas College, have been enrolled in at least one 3-credit course at Douglas College in the previous term and intend to enroll in the next term, or be enrolled in at least two 3-credit courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C.
  • International students must be enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College or have a valid Study Permit with the notation "May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V), or (W)".
