Position Overview
The CSIS Computer Lab Student Assistant plays a vital role in supporting fellow students in mastering software applications, networking principles, operating systems, and virtual environments. This position involves providing peer tutoring both in-person and online to enhance the learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist students and instructors in the CSIS labs and online environments.
  • Provide guidance on various software applications, including:
    • Cisco Packet Tracer
    • Eclipse/IntelliJ IDEA (Java Programming)
    • File management in Windows
    • Internet browsers such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Firefox
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
    • Oracle VirtualBox
    • Ubuntu
    • Visual Studio (C#)
    • Windows 10 and Windows Server
    • Wireshark
  • Support students in understanding computer networking fundamentals and troubleshooting techniques.

Qualifications:
To excel in this role, candidates should possess:
  • Strong verbal communication skills in English.
  • Preferred experience in remote or online tutoring.
  • Proficient knowledge of Windows operating systems and internet browsers.
  • Familiarity with Visual Studio (C#) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for web development.
  • Knowledge of Java programming and computer network fundamentals.
  • Completion of relevant courses with a minimum grade of 'B+' in specified subjects.

Eligibility Criteria:
Domestic students must meet one of the following conditions:
  • Enrolled in at least one (3 credit) course at Douglas College during the work term.
  • Previously enrolled in at least one (3 credit) course at Douglas College in the term before the work term and intends to enroll in the following term.
  • Enrolled in two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. during the work term.

International students must meet one of the following conditions:
  • Enrolled full-time at Douglas College throughout the academic year.
  • Enrolled at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. with a valid Study Permit allowing employment.

All candidates must provide necessary documentation, including a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and a Study Permit, prior to commencing work.
