Job Title: Student Assistant, CSIS Computer Lab

At Douglas College, we are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Student Assistant to join our CSIS Computer Lab team. As a Student Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with learning software, networking, operating systems, and virtual machines in their courses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist students with software, networking, operating systems, and virtual machines in the CSIS labs and online.
  • Provide peer tutoring and support to students in the CSIS labs and online.
  • Assist instructors and students in the CSIS labs and online.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of software, networking, operating systems, and virtual machines.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and software.
Requirements:
  • Effective English verbal communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of Windows OS, Internet browsers, Visual Studio (C#), Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Java programming.
  • Good working knowledge of Cisco Packet Tracer, Wireshark, and Oracle VirtualBox.
  • Basic working knowledge of Windows 10, Windows Server, and Ubuntu.
  • Good knowledge of computer network fundamentals.
  • Successfully completed CSIS1275 or CSIS2175 with a "B+" or higher grade, or both CSIS2260 and CSIS2270 with a "B+" or higher grade.
Eligibility Criteria:
  • Domestic students must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Enrolled in and maintaining a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term.
  • Enrolled in and maintained a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term.
  • Enrolled in and maintaining a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term.
  • Enrolled in and maintained a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term.
  • International students must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year.
  • Enrolled in full-time studies at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. and has a valid Study Permit with the notation – "May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria."

An original copy of a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and an original Study Permit are required by law before commencing work at Douglas College.

Qualified Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference over students of other qualifying institutions.
