About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Advisor to join our team at Fort McKay First Nation. As a key member of our organization, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and safety of our employees and the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain workplace safety programs to reduce the frequency and severity of accidents and occupational illnesses.
  • Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on health and safety procedures and protocols.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of health and safety policies, procedures, and records.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to promote a culture of health and safety within the organization.
  • Stay up-to-date with changing health and safety regulations and laws, and ensure compliance with all relevant standards and requirements.
  • Develop and implement programs to reduce the frequency and severity of accidents and occupational illnesses.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and industry partners.
  • Provide advice and guidance to employees on health and safety matters.
  • Develop and implement emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Conduct regular training and drills to ensure employees are prepared for emergency situations.
Key Requirements
  • Grade twelve (12) Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Construction Safety Officer certificate issued by the Alberta Construction Safety Association (ACSA) or another recognized institution.
  • OH&S Certificate is considered an asset.
  • Minimum three (3) years' experience in the field of construction safety or related field.
  • Proficient in computer applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience working in a First Nations community, including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions, and values, is a definite asset.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write Cree and/or Dene is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions. Some travel is required.
  • Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector is required.
  • Valid class 5 Driver's License & Clean Driver's Abstract required.
