Position Overview

Driver Trett is seeking a highly experienced Construction Claims Director to lead and inspire a team of professionals in the dynamic construction sector.

As the Construction Claims Director, you will be responsible for guiding your team through complex challenges and disputes within the industry. Your expertise in handling significant claims and providing expert witness testimonies will be invaluable to our clients.

Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to a diverse team of construction claim specialists.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the construction, legal, and engineering communities to generate new business opportunities.
  • Manage fee-based projects encompassing both live and retrospective claims and disputes, ensuring successful outcomes for our clients.
  • Collaborate closely with clients and their legal representatives throughout dispute resolution processes, providing expert guidance and support.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on construction industry matters for mediation, settlement negotiations, and expert testimonies, demonstrating your in-depth knowledge and analytical skills.
  • Offer strategic advice to clients on a wide range of commercial matters related to construction projects, leveraging your extensive experience and expertise.
  • Deliver impactful presentations on claims management to industry stakeholders, sharing your insights and thought leadership.
Candidate Requirements
  • Possess a strong academic background in Engineering, Architecture, or Quantity Surveying, with eligibility for professional accreditation in Ontario.
  • Demonstrate proven experience as an Expert Witness in legal proceedings, supported by positive endorsements from lawyers.
  • Exhibit exceptional leadership abilities and a proven track record of successfully managing teams within the construction industry.
  • Maintain a well-established network of contacts within the engineering, construction, and legal sectors in Toronto.
  • Have a consistent history of securing and executing successful construction claim projects in Toronto.
  • Possess strong business development skills and a proven ability to generate new leads and opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, with exceptional English language proficiency.
  • Demonstrate confidence and expertise in public speaking engagements.
  • Be actively engaged with industry organizations and contribute to the advancement of the construction sector.
  • Be willing to travel domestically and internationally as required for project needs.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Hold advanced legal education, such as an LLM degree.
  • Possess additional qualifications like an MEng, MBA, or post-graduate studies in a relevant field.
  • Obtain certification as a PSP or CFCC with AACE International.
  • Have published peer-reviewed articles in reputable industry journals.
