Job Summary

We are seeking a Registered Practical Nurse to join our dynamic team in the Short Stay Surgery Unit. As a Registered Practical Nurse, you will provide excellent patient and family driven care, in a supportive and culturally sensitive manner. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of care providers, with an emphasis on the assessment, education, prevention, maintenance, and restoration of patient health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing patient demands and engaging with new challenges every day
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, staff, volunteers, and families
  • Make decisions, take ownership of actions, and use critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the best interests of the patient
  • Follow all health and safety policies and guidelines to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and families
  • Commit to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement
  • Assume a leadership/charge role, demonstrating evidence of self-motivation regarding continuing education in areas of patient assessment, patient education, and related clinical specialties
  • Foster good public relations and working relationships in a family-centered care environment
  • Perform appropriately in emergency situations
  • Have proficient skills with computers, MS Word, Internet searches, data entry, and patient information systems

Qualifications

  • Registered Practical Nursing diploma from a recognized Community College
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required
  • Current Medication Certificate
  • One year recent experience in surgery, preferred
  • Genetic termination experience, preferred
  • PCA, epidural, ostomy, TPN experience, preferred
  • Patient Assessment course, preferred
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset

This is a Part-Time Permanent position with 8 hour shifts, Days and Nights in the Short Stay Surgery Unit.
