Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Traffic Operations/Signals Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Transportation group, you will be responsible for designing and implementing traffic signal systems and illumination systems for various projects, including highway and freeway conversions, municipal signaling systems, and non-vehicular modes signaling systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Liaise with clients and internal team members to design and specify traffic signal systems and illumination systems.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Work independently during design, tender, and construction phases of projects.
  • Lead the design, specifications, and tenders for client-specific traffic signal control and illumination systems.
  • Plan and operational analyze intersections and traffic signals.
  • Evaluate client requests and provide design options during preliminary and detailed design phases of projects.
  • Review and provide feedback on contractor queries and submissions during tender and construction phases of projects.
  • Direct contractors to ensure successful project commissioning.
  • Prepare traffic operational projects, including road safety reviews, traffic reviews, traffic impact assessments, and other traffic engineering assessments.
  • Deliver projects that meet client needs, on time and within budget.
Requirements
  • Degree in Civil, Electrical, or related field.
  • Canadian P.Eng. or P.L.(Eng.) registration with APEGA or eligibility to transfer membership.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in traffic signal design and operations.
  • Demonstrable experience in traffic operations, traffic signal, and illumination systems.
  • Significant experience with traffic operational analysis software (Synchro, Simtraffic, Sidra).
  • Experience with illumination analysis software (AGi32).
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil3D.
  • Experience with MUTCDC, IMSA, TAC, IESNA, and TEC standards/guidelines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Signal system experience for non-vehicular modes (transit, bicycles, rail interconnection).
  • Road safety experience.
  • RSP, PTOE, M. Sc., M.Eng, and/or PMP designation.
