About the Role

The Valley Regional Hospital (VRH), situated in Kentville, is on the lookout for a part-time (0.5 FTE) permanent pediatrician to deliver consulting services in both inpatient and outpatient environments, including satellite clinics in Lunenburg and Bridgewater. This role also offers the chance to mentor medical students and residents while contributing expertise in pediatric care to various committees. The position is affiliated with the provincial tertiary pediatrics hospital at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, which provides traveling sub-specialty clinics, telehealth grand rounds, and an air transport program.

Established in 1992, Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) serves Kings and Annapolis Counties and acts as a referral center for the Annapolis Valley and surrounding regions of Western Nova Scotia. The facility, with 137 inpatient beds, caters to approximately 80,000 residents, handling around 5,800 cases and 800 deliveries annually. It boasts a comprehensive surgical program with after-hours coverage for both emergency and non-elective procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive pediatric care to patients within the Western Zone.
  • Participate in on-call shifts as required.
  • Collaborate with Nova Scotia Health to enhance pediatric care delivery by coordinating with relevant staff.
  • Offer consultation support to the Western Zone, including daytime coverage and participation in an on-call rota for overnight and weekend duties.
  • Be accountable for the patient population in the Western Zone by conducting clinics and occasional satellite clinics.
  • Report to the Zone Pediatrics Department Head regarding professional responsibilities and quality of practice.
  • Adhere to the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health.

Hours: 0.5 FTE
On-call: Required

Qualifications
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS) is mandatory.
  • Specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC).
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is required.
