About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Risk Management Specialist to join our team at the BC Financial Services Authority. As a key member of our Supervision & Deposit Insurance department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the financial soundness and regulatory compliance of financial institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a risk-based supervisory strategy for financial institutions, leveraging your expertise in financial analysis and risk management principles.
  • Lead and/or conduct on-site reviews of financial institutions to assess their business models, strategies, and products, identifying and evaluating inherent risks and risk management control functions.
  • Maintain an up-to-date and accurate risk profile for institutions, providing valuable insights to inform regulatory decisions.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations on intervention levels and actions to address deficiencies, ensuring effective oversight and compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with institution senior management and board members, fostering a collaborative and transparent environment.
  • Stay abreast of macro-economic, sector, and regulatory developments, policies, and statistics to determine their impact on provincially regulated financial institutions.
  • Contribute to the development of internal work practices, policies, procedures, and tools, driving continuous improvement and best practices.
  • Provide orientation and training to internal and external stakeholders within your area of responsibility, promoting knowledge sharing and expertise.
  • Support organizational business transformation initiatives, leveraging your expertise to drive positive change.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of British Columbia's supervisory framework governing regulated financial sectors.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis techniques and risk management principles.
  • Ability to manage projects, exercise judgment, initiative, and discretion.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, with the ability to analyze business plans and financial statements.
  • Degree in business administration, statistics, or economics, with several years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Related experience includes financial analysis, internal/external audit, risk management, and interpreting and applying legislation, regulations, and/or policy.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with industry experience in at least one of insurance, credit union, banking, trusts, or related industries.
